When Doubt Gets Loud: Listening for the Truth Beneath It

When Doubt Gets Loud: Listening for the Truth Beneath It
Doubt has a way of showing up right when you think you’ve got things figured out.
You make a decision. You take a leap. You feel certain.
And then… the silence. The wait. The waver.
And doubt starts whispering: What if you made the wrong choice?
It’s especially loud this time of year.
As the calendar turns and you look back at what worked and what didn’t, the questions creep in:
- Did I waste time?
- Should I have said yes?
- Why isn’t this working faster?
- What if I’m not cut out for this?
If you’ve felt this kind of uncertainty bubbling up as you approach a new year, I want you to know this: it doesn’t mean you’re off track.
In fact, doubt often shows up not because you’re wrong—but because you’re growing.
The Difference Between Doubt and Intuition
We often confuse the two. But they feel very different in the body.
- Intuition feels calm. Quiet. Grounded. Even if it tells you something hard, it doesn’t yell.
- Doubt feels anxious. Uneasy. Noisy. It spirals. It wants answers now.
Here’s the tricky part: doubt can be dressed up like intuition.
Especially when things don’t unfold the way you imagined.
That’s what happened to me.
My Story: From Conviction to Questioning—and Back Again
When I created HOLD, I had a moment of deep clarity. I knew, without question, that this service needed to exist. The world didn’t just need more therapy or more advice—it needed presence. A place where people could be listened to without judgment, fixing, or pressure.
I felt like every part of my life had prepared me for this work.
So I built it.
I invested. I designed offers. I told people. I showed up.
But the financial success didn’t come right away.
And that’s when doubt crept in.
It didn’t show up all at once. It was subtle at first. But eventually, the questions grew louder than my original yes.
Did I misread the signs? Was this a mistake? What was I thinking?
There were days I looked at the numbers and felt like I’d failed. Like I’d built something beautiful that no one really needed. Or worse—that they needed but didn’t value.
And yet, even in those moments, something inside me said: Stay with it.
That voice was smaller than the doubt, but steadier.
Over time, I returned to that original clarity.
Not because everything magically fixed itself.
But because I stopped confusing doubt with truth.
Why Doubt Is Loud at the End of the Year
There’s something about the end of December that stirs up old questions.
You think about the job you stayed in… or the one you left.
You think about the relationship that shifted, the risks you took, the ones you didn’t.
You start wondering if you’re where you’re supposed to be.
And here’s what I want you to know:
Just because you’re questioning doesn’t mean you’re wrong.
Just because you’re uncertain doesn’t mean you’ve failed.
Sometimes doubt is simply a sign that you’ve been brave.
You’ve stepped out of the known.
You’ve followed something that didn’t come with guarantees.
You’ve moved toward something true—even if you’re still figuring it out.
Listening Beneath the Noise
When doubt gets loud, it’s easy to seek answers outside of yourself.
You Google. You ask friends. You scroll. You try to get enough validation to drown it out.
But here’s what I’ve learned:
The answers that bring peace don’t come from others. They come from stillness.
They come when someone gives you space to hear your own voice again—beneath the noise of fear, performance, expectation, and old stories.
And that’s what HOLD was built for.
If You’re in the Middle of It…
Maybe you’re standing at the edge of a decision and wondering if you can trust yourself.
Maybe you’ve already made a move—and now you’re swimming in uncertainty.
Maybe you’re looking at the new year and feeling pressure to figure it all out.
Let’s take a breath together.
You don’t have to have a plan for the next 12 months.
You don’t even have to plan for tomorrow.
You don’t need to be certain about everything.
You just need to reconnect to your quiet knowing and trust that it’ll work out.
And sometimes, the fastest way to do that to shift from the doubt to something that feels better… is to speak out loud what you’re really feeling. To someone who won’t interrupt, minimize, or rush you.
